Mechanism of Action
・Cold plasma is a collection of charged and neutral particles, also known as reactive species, that can be generated by applying electrical energy to a gas. This process ionizes the gas, creating highly reactive molecules or particles.
・Wound healing - Cold plasma can produce reactive oxygen species (ROS) that regulate cell activity. Low levels of ROS can promote skin cell proliferation and angiogenesis, which can help wounds heal faster. High levels of ROS can inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells, fibroblasts, keratinocytes, and endothelial cells.
・Anti-infection - Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) can inactivate drug-resistant bacteria and fungi. CAP can disrupt the outer membrane of gram-negative bacteria, which can lead to the destruction of the cell wall and cell membrane. Gram-positive bacteria are less susceptible to oxidative damage because they don't have an outer membrane and are surrounded by a thicker layer of peptidoglycan.
